Juniper Remediation
Starting in 2016, Six Shooter Ranch began the removal of juniper trees in coordination with grants from RCPP and Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB). This project requires several types of removal methods including mechanized cutting, Fecon grinding, hand cutting and controlled burning. To date, we have removed over 2,500 acres of juniper trees.
Our juniper remediation project plays an essential role in the revitalization of ranch land and waterways. On average, one juniper tree consumes 50 gallons of water per day. An abundance of these invasive trees quickly strips essential water from other native plants and waterways. This scarcity has subsequent impact on wildlife habitats, water downstream, and our own cattle ranching activities which rely heavily on our on-site water sources. Cutting and removing juniper trees restores an essential water resource back into our land.
